Danicamania Coming to Montreal

Article first published as Danicamania Coming to Montreal on Technorati.

NASCAR crosses the northern border for this weekend’s running of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at the 2.71 mile/14 turn road course of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal.

Last year’s part-time driver Boris Said is the defending champion of the event but the only part-time driver anyone seems to care anything about is Danica Patrick. All eyes are on the little Indy driver that could.

On an Indy car weekend off Patrick returns to the Nationwide series for the first time since her tenth place finish in Daytona in early July.

This will be her first road course experience in a stock car and another notch on her to-do list before coming to NASCAR full-time. Sources in the garage are expecting an announcement regarding Patrick’s full-time Nationwide ride with Dale Earnhardt Junior’s JR Motorsports  as early as next week. In conjunction with that arrangement most insiders expect her to contract for an unknown number of Sprint Cup events with Tony Stewart for 2012 as well.

Conjecture is 2012 in the Nationwide series is a prelude to Danica Patrick’s full-time duties in Sprint Cup in 2013.

If you believe everything the media says this is the biggest news since Sliced Toast and Carl Edwards back-flip. To be sure Patrick will sell a lot of Tee-shirts and coozies but will she win races? That is the question now isn’t it.

I might actually watch NASCAR if she was in every race. She’s a hero to us old dames who were told “You can’t do that because you’re a girl” while growing up.

I have only one thing to say to Danica: “YOU GO, GIRL!”
