White House Blues

Who knew President Obama was a fan of the blues?

This past Tuesday evening The White House played host to some of the biggest names in Blues. It was a hell of a band.

The gathering in the east room was a celebration of blues music in recognition of Black History Month. The program featured appearances by B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark, Jr., Shemekia Copeland, Buddy Guy, Warren Haynes, Mick Jagger, Keb’ Mo’, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, with Taraji P. Henson as the program host and Booker T. Jones.

President Obama expressed his version of the blues when he said there are times when you want to take a walk or go for a drive and you just can’t do it.

“But then there are other nights where B.B. King and Mick Jagger come over to your house to play for a concert. So I guess things even out a little bit,” Obama joked at the start of a star-studded White House concert.

The show will be shown on PBS on Feb 27.
