First Wednesday

The sun is high in the sky and temps on the plains are more like April than January. It’s the first Wednesday of 2012 and without my weirdo posts to fall back on I have to figure out what to write about. I don’t have the crutch of a regular topic to be researched and written. I have to be creative on my own and I haven’t even had coffee yet.

The horror… the horror…

The truth is I was getting a bit burned out on Weirdo Wednesday anyway.

Without a game plan, an idea or concept, I’ll be winging it, so to speak, from here on out. You’ll be getting whatever I can come up with. It’ll be a wide range of musings, my perceptions, my hopes and dreams, and my spin on current events.

I’d like to explore the obscure and mundane aspects of life. What better challenge is there than to write the minutia of one’s life and make it interesting. Now there’s a personal contest I can sink my keyboard into.  Many days will be fairly short and brief snippets of my day. Occasionally I will drift into some kind of rant, although I’m not really a ranter. (Come to think of it I could probably use the practice.)

All in all I’m looking forward to more writing in 2012.

Who knows… I may even finish Haunting Charleston.

First, find out what your hero wants, then just follow him!

Haunting Injustice at “The Deepening”

The Deepening world of fiction is devoted to fiction, its readers, its creators and authors. They have a real taste for the paranormal. The are highlighting my novel, Haunting Injustice, today. I am honored to be recognized by their excellent team of editors and book reviewers. The editor confirms what I always knew about this work. The prologue is a bit rough but the story is superb.

Thank you to the editors at The Deepening for highlighting my debut novel.

NaNoWriMo – Day 26

There is this challenge that starts every November 1st. They call it… NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. The deal is you are supposed to write a novel no less than 50,000 words in the 30 days of November. All years prior I considered this brass ring beyond my reach – unachievable. Yet, year after year, hundreds of other writers completed the challenge. I questioned their sanity. Now I question mine.

On the 24th day of NaNo I crossed the 50,000 word line. For my winning submission I get neat little badges to put on my web site. (There’s one right over there —>)

And I get a certificate, suitable for framing.

Radio show, computer crash, doctor visits, and other events

October has arrived and brought with it a host of stuff going on in the life of this writer. The saga of the broken shoulder continues, however the prognosis by the orthopedist is very encouraging. He thinks there is little or no rotator damage (insert applause and cheers here.) I seem to be improving every day.

The book signing went well. I didn’t sell as many books as I would’ve liked, but then do we ever? I want to thank everybody who came out to visit and the Phoenix and Dragon Bookstore in Atlanta for hosting.

While I was in Atlanta my laptop crashed, causing my all sorts of fear and trepidation. Fortunately all of my work in progress and past writings are archived off this computer. None of that was in danger of loss. (insert expression of major relief here.) Earlier this week, with new graphics card and LCD installed, the computer is ready to go back to work. (that doesn’t mean an uptick in Mafia Wars play.)

And the best news of the week, I will be the featured author on the
Extreme Writing Now Network – Blogradio show on Oct 24 – 6:30pm Eastern. I will be discussing Haunting Injustice, my work in progress, and any other topic that host Alex Crabtree tosses out.  Please drop by for a listen.

Milestones

Everyone hits milestones in their lives.  I remember most of mine.  There may be a couple along the way missed due to the prevalent blood alcohol content of the day.  Okay, there could be a few holes in my past, but milestones are pretty important.  Work with me here.

I remember my first car.  I remember my first concert.  I remember my first marriage.  I remember the end of my first marriage. (I’ll leave subsequent matrimonial experiences alone.) I remember the first girlfriend and the first sumpin’ sumpin’. I remember my first job, my first motorcycle ride, my first (fill_in_the_blank) …..  Seeing a pattern here?

Today is the first time my website hit 10,000 views. At 9:25 am, www.theprodigalscribe.com clicked into the 10K zone.

Hit Counter

Now that might not seem like a lot considering many of the more popular writers get that in an hour or so, but this is me we are talking about.  From the day TPS went live some 18 months ago to today, many of you have come to see what my journey is all about.  And for that, I humbly thank you!

To express gratitude, I have dropped the price of the Kindle version of HAUNTING INJUSTICE from $7.99 to $5.99.

Lastly, if you are one of those that like the feel of a new book in your hands and the smell of the paper tickling your nose as you turn the pages, I am offering a 20% discount for copies of HAUNTING INJUSTICE purchased directly from the publisher.

The last big milestone, before this one, was two weeks ago when I climbed back on Pearl for the first time since the accident. It was like manna from heaven with a little bit more horsepower – zoom cubed. It’s good to be back on the bike, but I’m still not fully healed.

The last few days I have been running through a regiment of stretching and isometric exercises to ready myself for next weeks visit with the orthopedic doc. It’s been a painful experience. I see an MRI in my near future to determine possibility of rotator cuff damage and is a surgery in the cards or deal with it through more exercises. I vote for more exercises.  I am hoping that surgery is a remote possibility and would be subject to serious contemplation if that’s what the surgeon recommends. More will be revealed.

And that, as they say, is that in a nutshell.  It’s been over a month since my last blog here, and part of my writing recovery is going to start right here.  I’m going to do a much better job of keeping up with this blog.  Oh, and there is the matter of book two to be written.

The dreaded One Sentence Pitch

I’ve been working on the “One Sentence Pitch” for HAUNTING INJUSTICE all morning. Frankly, I’m unhappy with my one sentence writing skills. Who would think it would be so difficult to boil down a 230 page book into its essence in 50 words or less? I wouldn’t. Would you?

Well, if you think you can do better, here’s a challenge for you. Head on over to the FACEBOOK – Prodigal Scribe fan page, where I have posted a challenge for writing the aforementioned pitch. The winner of the contest will get a signed copy of the second Phoenix Worthy book as soon as it publishes.
(while you are there, click the LIKE button, so I’ll know you dropped by)

To participate would mean you would either have to have read,
HAUNTING INJUSTICE, or getting ready to.
